PJ Pamulo: A Lifelong New Yorker Committed to Community
Published on January 27, 2025 by GlasswingWe love our supporters!
Today we’re celebrating one of Glasswing’s most dedicated volunteers and supporters: Patricia (PJ) Pamulo.
PJ, who was born and raised in Queens, inspires us with her compassion and commitment to uplifting others in her hometown.
Inspired to Act
PJ’s journey with Glasswing began in the spring of 2024, when she attended Glasswing New York’s first-ever salon. During that event, students and members of the educational community shared their experiences and perspectives, candidly discussing the challenges faced by young people in New York.
PJ was immediately drawn to Glasswing’s New York–based work supporting youth as they pursue their dreams.
“Listening to the kids’ stories—hearing their courage and vulnerability—I was in awe,” she told us. “The sacrifices they’ve made, their dedication, and the way they show up for themselves and their families is humbling. I can’t even imagine having to find my own way like that. It’s inspiring.”
From that moment, PJ became a familiar face at Glasswing New York schools and events. Whether she’s facilitating communication workshops, participating in group well-being practices, or volunteering during our summer programs, she is a consistent and trusted presence.
PJ has a keen ability to identify where support is needed. As a volunteer and youth advocate, she has:
- Led a successful Back-to-School Drive for high school students
- Delivered essential hygiene supplies to schools in urgent need
- Initiated a Support-a-Senior campaign to guarantee that every student can participate in key milestones, such as senior trips or prom
She’s a driving force behind initiatives that provide students with critical resources and opportunities.
The Power of Community
PJ believes that New York’s strength lies in its diversity, its resilience, and the spirit of its people.
“New York is more than just a place to live,” she said. “It’s a living, breathing entity where every street, neighborhood, and community contributes to the city’s unique character. It’s a vibrant mosaic of cultures, dreams, and stories.”
This dynamic sense of home fuels her desire to give back. “Volunteering here means being part of that tapestry,” she said, “by offering hope, sharing knowledge, and working together.” For PJ, getting involved is about supporting the city’s incredible potential while addressing the challenges its diverse communities face.
That sense of community is a constant in her work with Glasswing. For her, it’s about more than programs; it’s about people. She credits Glasswing New York’s Senior Program Specialist, Dionne Delgado, as a source of ongoing inspiration. “Being around Dionne makes you want to do even more,” she said. “She’s infectious in the best way. She sees students’ potential and helps them become the best version of themselves. It has really moved me.”
A Life of Purpose
Whether through her 25-year career in financial services, her love of Broadway, or her passion for reading and travel (with Tahiti as her dream destination), PJ approaches life with curiosity and heart. Her home is with Russell, her husband of 27 years; her daughter Natalie; and their two dogs and two cats.
PJ’s story is a testament to the power of showing up—for community and for change. Her advice: “Find your passion and pursue it to help others. It’s transformative. You give, but you gain so much more in return.”
“You think you’re doing it for others, but you walk out of there feeling changed yourself,” she reflected. “It makes your life and theirs better. The world just becomes a better place.”
PJ is helping to build a stronger, more inclusive New York—one that inspires and uplifts us all. We are so grateful for her leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment to creating real change.
