Senior staff participate in the Chemonics Local Partners Summit

In October, Glasswing’s Regional Program Director Florencia Garcia and Louis Alexander, Director of Strategic Partnerships, attended the Chemonics Local Partners Summit “Meeting the Moment: Local Changemakers Lead in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States,” in Washington, D.C. The event explored and promoted locally led approaches to conflict-aware development and peacebuilding.

During the two-day session, Florencia spoke on the panel “Committing to Shifting the Power: What Does Putting Partners in the Lead Look Like in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States?” She and fellow panelists discussed recommendations from local partners and donors on how to advance local priorities and causes.

The conversation centered on the effective implementation of measurements for local partners, along with the challenges that need to be overcome to ensure true local participation and leadership.

Panelists reflected on how the capacity of local organizations needs to be strengthened through the input of experienced officials, emphasizing factors like flexibility during any project implementation.

They also discussed the ways in which they have impacted communities through peacebuilding and violence prevention, access to health care, the establishment of food security, and the building of community resilience. Finally, they pointed out how they have supported education goals, anti-corruption movements, environmental protection, economic reform, and more.
