Celebrating the launch of Solve for Tomorrow 2024, from Samsung and Glasswing
Published on July 16, 2024 by GlasswingIn May, we celebrated the 2024 launch of Solve for Tomorrow, a program from Samsung Electronics.
Solve for Tomorrow is a global Samsung program that invites students to use their science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills to make a difference in their communities. It provides a platform for youth to transform innovative ideas into real solutions that can improve people’s lives. In the process, they gain soft skills and learn teamwork, leadership, and assertive communication.
One-hundred and twenty (120) teams enter the program each year, and only one winning team is selected for each participating country. These teams then advance to a regional competition, and from there, an overall champion is selected. Each project must be based on STEM principles and be community-oriented, viable, sustainable, and original.
In addition to competing in the contest, students also receive training in critical thinking, communications, and other subjects to help them with their proposals.
More than 10,000 students and nearly 1,000 teachers participated in Phase 1 (Registration) of the 2024 Solve for Tomorrow, a record for the program. In 2023, more than 9,000 students registered, with 100 teams participating. The 2023 winning team was from Belize and created the project SMARTZ, an intelligent device for visually impaired people.
“Projects like Solve for Tomorrow are essential in empowering young people and fostering a sense of community,” said Chris Martínez, Glasswing’s Regional Projects Director, who is based in Panama. “Through their participation, students gain invaluable skills and the confidence to innovate and create solutions for real-world problems. These initiatives not only enrich their educational journey but also inspire a new generation to contribute positively to society. At Glasswing, we are committed to supporting these young individuals who are paving the way for a brighter future for everyone.”
Chris joined María Fernanda Hernández, Corporate Citizenship Manager of Samsung Central America and the Caribbean, and Zezinho Lee, President of Samsung Central America and the Caribbean, to launch the 2024 Solve for Tomorrow in May. The launch event is available for viewing on YouTube.
