Expanding Support in New York City
Published on April 25, 2023 by GlasswingWith over 40,000 newcomers over the past 10 months in New York City and public schools absorbing over 7,000 new students this school year, migrants and the City are facing major challenges. Glasswing has mounted a comprehensive response in New York to be there for children and their parents as they face major struggles, which include food insecurity, housing and schooling instability.
Many are fleeing violence, instability and poverty in their home countries, arriving in New York City to an overstretched social service system. Faced with language barriers, legal confusion and children who are hungry and need warm clothes, many feel scared, frustrated, and hopeless.
Working through our network of schools, Glasswing is providing support to hundreds of families, which includes emergency cash support, food assistance, clothing and hygiene products as well as roadmaps to access resources. Our team is conducting school-based informational and resource workshops helping recently arrived families to understand how to navigate school opportunities and support, mental health resources, legal needs, and employment opportunities.
Help us so we can provide the critical resources they need to overcome these major challenges. Join us. Reach out to us at: [email protected]
