USA

Glasswing USA works to raise Glasswing International’s global presence by mobilizing resources and building lasting partnerships with multinational companies, institutions, governments, foundations, and individual supporters. Glasswing USA is a member of the United Nations Global Compact, UN ECOSOC, and other networks. We host the annual Glasswing Gala, bringing together 400 members of the Glasswing community to celebrate and provide children and youth in Latin America with opportunities for a brighter future.

Our work in New York

Glasswing USA implements complementary education programs that empower and equip migrant youth and their families with life skills and social-emotional competencies needed to become effective agents of change within their own communities. Volunteerism is an integrative part of all of our programs, as we believe it allows all citizens to be involved and demonstrates the power of collective impact. Our programs are facilitated by local volunteers and operate as weekly after-school clubs and primarily serve English Language Learners (ELL) students. Students are immersed in literacy and life skill development activities that increase their language development and content knowledge within a supportive, personalized classroom environment that is adapted and tailored to fit their needs. Our mission acknowledges the importance of restoring the position of migrant youth in society as assets, rather than liabilities. By fostering a more profound knowledge and understanding of the causes and consequences of immigrants displaced by violence, harmful norms and paradigms can be shifted not only for local volunteers but for the students themselves.

Our programs include:

  • English Literacy After-School Program
  • Individual and Small-group Mentorship
  • Glasswing Student Internship Program
  • Parent Engagement Workshops (Community Cafe’s)
  • School Makeovers/ Reading space transformation
  • Digital Media and Journalism Academy
  • Youth-Led Participatory Action Research (YPAR)
