We are pleased to announce that the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI) has awarded Samsung Electronics Latin America, Best CSR Practices in Latin America Award, under the inter-sectoral partnership category for their Samsung Smart Schools — a regional project implemented in partnership with Glasswing International. From a competitive pool of applicants, CEMEFI selects socially responsible, results-driven programs with a proven impact and the potential to be replicated in the communities served.

The Smart Schools project, operating in 13 countries across Latin American and the Caribbean, is driven by Samsung’s expertise in technology for education and Glasswing’s expertise in executing youth development and public education programs in the region. The project provides public school students in at-risk communities with access to the latest technology (tablets, smart TVs, and laptops) outfitted with education-based applications that are innovative and engaging for kids but also align and support the country’s education curriculum. To date, the 39 Smart Schools have benefited over 29,000 students and 1,200 teachers region wide.

The project is also contributing to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 17 (global partnerships for sustainable development) and SDG 4 (quality education). Through Smart Schools, Samsung and Glasswing are helping to ensure that children and youth across Latin America have access to technology to thrive in the classroom and gain the skills required to succeed in the 21st century job market.
