My name is Rebeca, and I am 14 years old. For a few months, I have been a member of the Girls Club. I used to be quite a reserved, shy person. I didn’t fully understand the importance of having a support group and being able to express my feelings instead of keeping them to myself.
I currently live with my mother and my five brothers. This year in particular has been very difficult for me and my family. My dad, my grandparents, and my two uncles passed away from COVID-19. It has been difficult for me to accept the reality of this situation. I have felt sad, frustrated, and uncertain, but I feel fortunate to have the support of the Girls Club.
I have found a second family within the club — a group of friends who listen to me, support me, and have helped me to get through this situation. I even see my own personal growth. I have learned to express myself better, I have become more sociable, and I no longer feel bad about sharing my feelings.
Despite the circumstances, I have continued to participate virtually in different activities on “En Casa con Glasswing” to keep myself busy and clear my mind. I love feeling like I can have fun and continue learning from home. I am very grateful for all the support the program has provided me and my family.
