Glasswing clubs help Claudia define her values
My name is Claudia. I’m 14 years old and in the 9th grade.I grew up in the Las Palmas neighborhood of San Salvador, an area that has always been defined by poverty and violence.
Growing up in Las Palmas was difficult. I was very combative with my teachers and didn’t do well in school. Four years ago, I began participating in Glasswing Clubs. Now, I’m a member of several clubs, including the leadership club, debate club, and girls club.
Participating in these clubs has made a positive impact on my life. They have helped me improve my attitude in school, and better express myself socially. Recently, I even won best speaker in our debate competition! Right now, I’m working on three projects through my leadership club alone: one at school, and two within the community. Since Glasswing began working in Las Palmas, there have been healthier dynamics within the school and the entire community.
My club leaders have truly supported me and shaped my values. I would love to see even more clubs at our school. I have always wanted to learn a new language, especially German. It would be great to have a German club in Las Palmas!
