Fifth Annual Benefit Gala raises a record $1.1 million!

This year, Glasswing celebrated its Fifth Annual Benefit Gala honoring John Moore, Head of Latin America at Morgan Stanley, at Tribeca Rooftop in New York City. It was our most successful Gala ever with over 400 of our supporters who came out to help us raise $1.1 million for children and youth in Latin America, the Caribbean, and New York City. Our co-chairs included Carmen Busquets & John Skipper, Jana Pasquel de Shapiro, Franck Petitgas, and Olivier Sarkozy. Welcoming remarks were given by special guest, Raúl de Molina from Univision’s top-rated show El Gordo y La Flaca. Other VIP guests included the US Ambassador to El Salvador Jean Manes, fashion designer Donna Karan, actress Mary-Kate Olsen, Elle magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Nina Garcia, and more.

“Central America is a region of extreme violence, but also extreme opportunity and human potential. Every day, hundreds of children flee their home communities to escape unimaginable levels of poverty and violence in hopes of a brighter future. We give kids and families hope; we remind them how much we believe in them; provide safe spaces and access to learning and recreational opportunities; and mentorship – enabling them to become the best version of themselves,” said Celina de Sola, as she addressed the crowd at the gala.

The crowd was also addressed by Rene, a 14-year-old student currently enrolled in Glasswing’s after-school program. He spoke about his youth in El Salvador and how his Soccer Club volunteer, Reymundo Carballo, inspired him to overcome adversity by never giving up. Rene was able to acknowledge Reymundo as an inspirational volunteer at the event. Funds raised during the fund-a-need auction will be directed to Glasswing’s education and health programs to help empower youth, like Rene, and their communities.
